An excessive heat wave is hitting the Coachella Valley this weekend, with temperatures expected to reach 114-118 degrees in the desert in prime time for the hundred-teens this summer.

An excessive heat control is in effect until 8pm Monday for the area, with Saturday and Sunday expected to be the hottest days.

Summers are getting hotter in the Coachella Valley

All of the top five warmest summers in Coachella Valley history have occurred within the past six years, demonstrating how climate change is driving up average temperatures in the region. In 2021, the region had its hottest summer on record since the all-time temperature record began a century ago in 1992, with an average temperature of 94 degrees. Last summer fell far behind, with an average temperature of 93.9 degrees.
